On October 10th, 2022, we volunteered to weed in Mrs. Cilmi's Pollinator Garden as well as to curb and remove litter in Crocheron Park! We did a lot of work and had lots of fun- 10/10 volunteering experience ✨

One frequent QueensYVC volunteer described her experience volunteering with Friends of Crocheron at the park:

"Despite the work being laborious at times, the experience of volunteering with Friends of Crocheron is very enjoyable. I have volunteered at Crocheron park many times before and helping out in the pollinator garden is always a joy as I get to help the flora (through weeding/watering) while having fun with friends!"

09/24 & 09/25: Compost Pa Looza

We volunteered at Queens Botanical Garden's very first annual Compost-Pa-Looza festival! We helped out with several stations and booths and had fun. It was great to volunteer at one of their amazing events!

08/13/22 & 08/27/22: Food Distribution

We volunteered at La Jornada, which is now temporarily located at Pan American International High School in Corona. We helped flatten boxes, bag vegetables like onions, and distributed boxes of mixtures of a variety cooked dishes.

07/23/22: La Jornada!

07/16/22

Working with Friends of Crocheron Park, we watered plants, weeded weeds like Morning Glory, and raked  leaves in Mrs.Cilmi's Garden. Unfortunately, it started raining an hour after we started volunteering T-T But REGARDLESS it went well!

07/17: Due to the fact that our organization has only been holding projects and events in Queens, our administrative team has decided to rebrand.

From this point forward, our organization will be called: Queens Youth Volunteer Community (abbreviated as QueensYVC)

06/04/22

From 9 AM - 1 PM, NYCYVS Volunteers helped at La Jornada with bagging and distribution of various kinds of food such as canned fruits and veggies, noodles, grains, etc.

05/21/22

Volunteering with Friends of Crocheron Park, we removed litter: glass shards, tiny bits of plastic, etc. These are all things that can hinder our park's environment if they're not removed. We also helped with edging and weeding in Mrs. Cilmi's Garden!

05/01/22 & 05/08/22

In Queens Botanical Gardens, we helped out with booth activities such as teaching kids how to make flower crowns and origami, supervising people, as well as teaching people how to plant flowers and take care of them. Many of us had lots of fun volunteering at our community's botanical garden! During our second volunteer event, we decorated roads with colorful chalks and handing out pots of beautiful flowers to people to gift them to their mothers (it was Mother's Day by the way)

04/16/22

Working together with Friends of Crocheron as well as the Kiwanis Queens East Division, NYCYVS helped with weeding, removing litter, edgining and mulching around the park. Thank you to everyone who helped out.

04/09/22

Thanks to everyone who volunteered again on April 9th, 2022.  We had several new volunteers, and I'd like to thank to those for quickly adapting to the work style. Just a notice, we'll be not volunteering at La Jornada for a while. We'll start volunteering at La Jornada around May 27.

04/02/22

Thanks to everyone who volunteered again on April 2nd, 2022. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend 💖

03/26/2022

03/13/2022

We volunteered at Kehilat Sephardim Food Pantry, a popular food pantry that serves food to over a thousand of citizens in Kews Garden Hill.  It was quite a freezing shift today but nevertheless we had fun. As you can see below, one of our tasks was to package fresh grapes, flawless from moldiness or fungus. Moreover, we also had other food to distribute, such as fresh zucchinis, lettuce, onions, and watermelons. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered today and great thanks to the food pantry for the ongoing support for its community citizens 💞.

03/05/2022

We volunteered again at La Jornada.  I guess La Jornada is now considered one of the "go to places" for our volunteering events now. It's still so amazing that all of us are able to do so much and contribute so much to our community. Today is another busy day at La Jornada that involves all of us doing different things such as bagging food, boxing and crating vegetables, clearing out boxes, and cleaning up the place. However, there are only 3 words that describes what makes today so unique:  'Illegal' Horse Chips

Like who would've expected that there are chips like these 🤣.

02/23/2022

During President's Week, so many of us volunteered once again at La Jornada. Today, La Jornada had no one but us and 3 other volunteers who supervises the place. Our main goal today is to pack as many food bags as we can and surprisingly, we managed to pack everything within 3 hours. Usually, it'll take us 5 hours - no even more than 5 hours to pack during the weekends, so it was a proud accomplishment for many of us. Haha I'm so proud of us 😌

02/12/2022

NYCYVS volunteered for the first time in the year of 2022 at La Jornada. Volunteering with over 20 other friends, volunteers, and peers, we all had a great time! Maybe the experience with onions may not be that fun, but the experience of volunteering with friends and peers was amazing.
